The appointment of Finance and Public Enterprises Minister Hassan Zareer has been referred to Parliament's Government Accountability Committee for review.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu submitted a motion seeking parliamentary approval for Zareer's appointment, which was forwarded to the committee for consideration and a decision.

Zareer was appointed as Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises on June 8 following the resignation of former Finance Minister Moosa Zameer earlier that day.

Before assuming the ministerial role, Zareer served as Commissioner General of Taxation. A qualified chartered accountant, he has extensive experience in taxation, auditing and finance, and has worked in the public sector since 2000.

The Government Accountability Committee is expected to review Zareer's credentials and submit its recommendation to Parliament before a vote is taken on his appointment.
