More than 58,000 applications have been submitted for flats and land under the Government's "Housing for All" policy, according to the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development.
The first housing scheme under the policy was opened for applications in January. While the original deadlines for land and flat applications were set for March and April respectively, the ministry extended the submission period several times.
The final deadline for applications was set at 11:59 p.m. on 15 June. However, due to technical issues experienced on the Boahiyaavahikan portal, the deadline was further extended until 2:00 a.m. the following day.
According to the latest statistics released by the ministry, a total of 58,505 applications were submitted, including 35,930 applications for flats and 22,575 applications for land plots.
Most applications were submitted under the family housing programme, which received 45,644 applications. This included 35,818 applications for flats and 9,826 applications for land. A further 12,861 applications were submitted under the Goathigedhoru programme, comprising 112 applications for flats and 12,749 applications for land plots.
Under the scheme, the Government plans to allocate 15,000 land plots in the Greater Malé Region and Rasmalé. The Government has also announced plans to allocate 7,900 flats in the Greater Malé Region, including 4,000 flats for Malé residents, 1,500 for residents of other islands and 2,400 flats under special priority categories.
