Mohamed Nizar appointed President of Privatization Board --

Parliament has begun the process of approving the appointment of Mohamed Nizar as President of the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB), following the submission of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's nomination.

Nizar, who previously served as the President of PCB, was appointed to the position following the resignation of former PCB President Mohamed Anas on 30 April.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s letter requesting parliamentary approval for Nizar’s appointment was sent on May 21 and was formally presented during Wednesday’s sitting. The nomination has since been referred to the State-Owned Enterprises Committee for vetting.

Nizar brings over three decades of experience in international business, corporate management and governance. He previously served as President of the PCB from 2014 to 2019, during which he played a key role in advancing the Government’s privatisation and corporatisation agenda and strengthening governance frameworks for State-owned enterprises.

He has also held senior positions at the State Trading Organization for more than 20 years, including roles in import operations, administration, information technology and sales. His work included overseeing major projects such as ERP system implementation, supply chain development, and the enhancement of international trade relations.

In addition, Nizar has served on several national committees focused on risk management, procurement, and corporate governance, and has been a board member of Maldives Gas Private Limited and Maldives Structural Products Private Limited.

He holds a Master of Business Administration and a Graduate Certificate in Business Administration from the University of South Australia. He has participated in a range of international programmes on corporate governance and public sector operations.
