Minister of Economic Development, Transport and Trade Mohamed Saeed has said President Dr Mohamed Muizzu remains the People’s National Congress (PNC) candidate for the 2028 presidential election.
Minister Saeed made the remarks in response to criticism directed at the ruling party by opposition figures. In a social media post, he said the party's leadership, parliamentary group and membership remain united in their support for President Dr Muizzu and his Administration.
He said the party remains focused on fulfilling the pledges made to the public and supporting efforts to bring development, stability and progress to the country. He also stated that internal party elections would not change the party's position regarding its presidential candidate.
Highlighting the party's performance since taking office, minister Saeed said the PNC had become the country's largest political party, secured victories in multiple elections and achieved a parliamentary supermajority under President Dr Muizzu's leadership. He also pointed to major Government projects, land reclamation initiatives and efforts to repay State debt as achievements of the current Administration.
The minister further criticised opposition parties, arguing that the opposition coalition lacks clear leadership and direction. He described the absence of a strong opposition as one of the biggest political challenges facing the country and claimed disagreements within opposition ranks had weakened their ability to present an alternative political vision.
