President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Mohamed Shakeel as a member of the Elections Commission.

Shakeel took the oath of office during a ceremony held at the President's Office on Wednesday. The oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice Uz Mohamed Saleem, after which Shakeel signed the official oath declaration. President Dr Muizzu also presented him with his letter of appointment.

Shakeel returns to the Elections Commission with previous experience in the institution. He served as a member of the commission from 3 December 2014 to 9 May 2018, having earlier held the post of Director General from 1 September 2013 until his appointment as a member.

Most recently, Shakeel served as the Managing Director and a board member of the Maldives Hajj Corporation.
