Bank of Maldives (BML) has donated 30 wheelchairs under its annual programme supporting people with mobility impairments across the Maldives.

This year's programme has been expanded to cater to a wider range of mobility needs, with the introduction of specialised manual wheelchairs for children and adults who rely on caregivers for daily mobility. Motorised wheelchairs will also continue to be provided to individuals who are able to operate them independently.

The wheelchair donation initiative has been running since 2017 and has supported beneficiaries in more than 105 islands nationwide. Over the years, the programme has become one of the bank's longest-running community initiatives aimed at improving mobility and accessibility for people living with disabilities.

BML stated that more than 360 wheelchairs have now been distributed through the programme, helping beneficiaries gain greater independence while easing mobility challenges faced by their families and caregivers.
