President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Thoriq Ibrahim and Adam Shareef Umar as the Maldives' ambassadors to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the State of Qatar, respectively.
The appointments were formalised during a ceremony held at the President's Office on Thursday morning, where the two ambassadors presented their credentials after receiving parliamentary approval earlier this month.
Parliament approved both appointments on 15 June, with 57 members voting in favour of each nomination following a recommendation by the Foreign Relations Committee. Thoriq previously served as Minister of Tourism and Environment, while Adam Shareef served as Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works. He currently serves in a senior position at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The appointments strengthen the Maldives' diplomatic representation in two key partner countries in the Middle East.
