Several people were taken to hospital after a fire broke out at a house on Lonuziyaaraiy Magu in Malé on Sunday night.

The fire occurred at Galolhu Funfalhuge. Police and the Maldives National Defence Force’s Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene and worked to extinguish the blaze.

Police said the incident was reported at 10:49 p.m., adding that the fire has since been brought under control.

Several people were taken to hospital following the incident. Police also said assistance is being provided to families evacuated from the building, with support being coordinated alongside the relevant authorities as part of the emergency response.

Authorities added that 18 individuals and an infant are being treated for smoke inhalation. National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) stated that 58 individuals have been provided with emergency relief following the incident.
