Milandhoo constituency MP Hassan Mufeed Abdul Gadhir has questioned how politicians who repeatedly change political parties can effectively serve the public, arguing that such actions undermine public confidence in political leaders.
Speaking during MMTV's special coverage of the Congress Party's internal election updates on Saturday, MP Mufeed said the Maldivian political landscape has seen leaders establish political parties, dissolve them and later return to parties they had previously left, leading to a loss of public trust.
He said politicians who frequently change their political affiliations demonstrate a lack of consistency and questioned whether such individuals could be trusted to serve the people if elected to positions of authority.
"If politicians themselves do not remain steadfast in their principles and continue to shift from one party to another, the public must consider how such individuals can be expected to serve the people after assuming positions of responsibility," he said.
MP Mufeed also questioned how any country seeking progress and development could move forward under leaders who lack consistency in their political direction.
Commenting on the ruling People's National Congress (PNC), MP Mufeed said the party remains united and free from internal divisions. He added that the party's objective for the 2028 presidential election is clear.
He emphasised that members at every level of the party are working towards securing a second term for President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in the 2028 presidential election.
He expressed confidence that the party would achieve that objective.
