The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has announced that 43 water and sewerage projects have been completed over the past two and a half years, as the Government continues efforts to expand utility services across the Maldives.

Currently, 69 water and sewerage projects are under implementation, while 50 new projects were awarded between November 17, 2023 and June 30, 2026. These include projects that were re-awarded after contracts issued by the previous administration were terminated due to a lack of progress.

The ministry's figures show that 154 water and sewerage projects were launched between 2018 and 2023. However, only 52 were completed during that period, leaving 102 unfinished when the current administration took office.

Among the 43 projects completed over the past two and a half years are several that were originally awarded in 2019, 2020 and 2021, including 21 financed through loans from India's Exim Bank. The ministry said work is continuing on the remaining 69 projects, with all expected to be completed during the current presidential term.
