Parliament has referred the proposed appointment of Ambassador Ahmed Sareer as the Maldives' Non-Resident Ambassador to Bahrain to the Foreign Relations Committee for review.

The proposal was submitted to Parliament by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and formally presented during Monday's sitting before being forwarded to the committee for consideration. Sareer currently serves as the Maldives' Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and is also the country's Non-Resident Ambassador to Morocco.

Sareer was appointed Ambassador to Saudi Arabia in October 2024 and has served in the Maldivian foreign service since 1986. Throughout his diplomatic career, he has held several senior positions, including Foreign Secretary, Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador to the United States and Bangladesh, and senior roles within the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

He holds a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences from the University of Canberra and a Master's degree in Foreign Affairs and Trade from Monash University, both in Australia.
