Court orders closure of suspected drug-use premises in Seenu Maradhoo --
Maldives Police Service (MPS) have closed a premises in Addu City for 90 days after obtaining a court order over allegations that it was being used to facilitate drug use.
The premises, located in Seenu Maradhoo, was ordered closed by the Maradhoo Magistrate Court for 90 days, effective from 12 July 2026. The order was issued under the Drugs Act.
MPS said this is the first order issued by the Maradhoo Magistrate Court to close a premises suspected of being used for drug consumption.
Police said entering the premises without authorisation during the closure period is a criminal offence. Legal action will also be taken against anyone who unlawfully enters the property or causes damage to it while the court order remains in force.
The police expressed appreciation to members of the public for their continued support and cooperation in efforts to curb drug trafficking and drug-related activities in Addu City.
Police said operations to combat drug-related crime will continue under the powers granted by the Drugs Act. They added that efforts are underway to identify other premises suspected of being used for drug consumption and to seek court orders to close them in accordance with the law.
