Maldives Customs Service will further strengthen border security by expanding digital services and the use of technology, Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan has said.

The minister made the remarks in a special message marking the 136th anniversary of the Maldives Customs Service.

Minister Ihusaan highlighted the agency’s role in national security, border protection, facilitating trade, and safeguarding a significant share of State revenue.

He said Customs officers have made notable progress over the past two and a half years in intercepting drugs and prohibited products, including vapes, at the country’s borders under the Government’s guidance.

The minister said Customs operations will increasingly shift towards more accessible digital systems, allowing services to be delivered more efficiently.

Greater use of technology will also strengthen the agency’s ability to protect the country’s borders and maintain national safety and security, he added.

Minister Ihusaan said Customs will continue its efforts to modernise its operations and carry out its responsibilities more effectively.
