The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) recorded increases across its operations in June, with more cases received, prosecuted and brought before the courts.
The latest statistic show that the office received 228 cases during the month, up 59.4 per cent from 143 cases in May. It also forwarded 265 cases for prosecution, compared with 263 cases the previous month.
The largest increase was recorded in legal advice provided to prosecutors and investigative agencies. The PGO issued advice in 683 cases during June, an increase of 52.7 per cent from 447 cases in May.
Court appearances also increased during the month, with prosecutors attending hearings in 1,207 cases, compared with 1,150 cases in May.
The PGO said it is continuing efforts to expedite its work by establishing prosecution teams to assist investigative agencies in selected cases. The office is also working with relevant authorities to remove obstacles that delay cases from being submitted for prosecution.
