The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) responded to 23 emergency incidents across the country last week, with fire incidents accounting for more than half of the cases.

Statistics released by the MNDF show its Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) responded to the incidents between 12 and 18 of this month. Fire incidents were the most frequently reported, with 12 cases recorded. The remaining incidents included five rescue operations, four medical evacuations, one hazardous materials incident, and one other emergency.

By region, the highest number of incidents was reported in Malé. The Malé Area Command responded to 16 incidents, while the Central Area Command and Southern Area Command each responded to three incidents. The Northern Area Command responded to one incident.

The MNDF said its Fire and Rescue Service operates around the clock to protect lives and property. It also urged the public to contact its emergency hotline, 118, to report emergency incidents.
