The Maldives Bureau of Statistics (MBS) has launched an interactive data explorer portal to provide easier public access to official statistics on inflation, economic performance and population trends in the Maldives.

The platform was launched on Monday on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Statistics Act, which established MBS as the country's independent national statistics office.

The Ministry of Finance and Public Enterprises said the portal is intended to improve public access to information on economic and demographic changes in the Maldives. Through the platform, users can interactively explore official data on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and population projections.

The ministry said the portal provides a simple and user-friendly way for the public to access official statistics.

The Statistics Act strengthened the legal and institutional framework for the collection, management, quality control, and dissemination of official statistics in the Maldives. Under the law, the Chief Statistician is appointed by the President to lead MBS.

The Ministry of Finance is responsible for matters relating to MBS, while the bureau operates under the ministry's oversight.
