NPC reduces salaries of Permanent Secretaries, Secretary Generals

The National Pay Commission (NPC) has decided to reduce the salaries and allowances of Permanent Secretaries in Government ministries and Secretaries General of local councils, with the revised pay structure taking effect from next month.

In a circular issued to Permanent Secretaries, Secretaries General and Acting Secretaries General, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) said the changes apply to Permanent Secretaries, Secretaries General and three information and communication technology (ICT) job matrices. The revised structure introduces new basic salaries and executive allowances for the affected positions.

Under the changes, Permanent Secretaries and Secretary Generals of city councils, both classified as Rank 17, will receive a basic salary of MVR 23,935 and an executive allowance of MVR 23,065. Secretary Generals of island councils under Rank 16 will receive a basic salary of MVR 18,000 and an executive allowance of MVR 6,620, while Rank 16 Secretary Generals under the diploma and experience category will receive a basic salary of MVR 10,000 and an executive allowance of MVR 7,000.

The CSC also said salary and allowance revisions have been introduced for the ICT Operations and User Support Technician, Information and Communication Technology Manager, and Information and Communication Technology Analyst job matrices.

Before the revision, Permanent Secretaries and Secretary Generals of city councils received a monthly salary package of around MVR 53,000. The revised salary structure will come into effect next month.
