The Maldives Government has expressed support for Saudi Arabia following accusations by the Houthi militia claiming that the Kingdom is imposing a siege on the Yemeni people.
In a statement, the Government endorsed Saudi Arabia's condemnation of the allegations, describing them as unfounded, and reaffirmed its solidarity with the Kingdom.
The statement comes amid the ongoing conflict in Yemen, where the Iran-backed Houthi movement has repeatedly accused Saudi Arabia of restricting access and worsening the humanitarian situation. Saudi Arabia has rejected the claims, stating that it continues to support international efforts to achieve peace and provide humanitarian assistance to Yemen.
The Maldives recognised Saudi Arabia's longstanding efforts, undertaken in cooperation with the internationally recognised Government of Yemen and in support of the United Nations, to promote peace and alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.
The Government also acknowledged Saudi Arabia's continued contributions to Yemen through humanitarian and development assistance.
Reaffirming its support for Saudi Arabia, the Maldives said it remains committed to efforts aimed at promoting peace, security and stability in Yemen.
