The newly redeveloped section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu will be opened to the public at 4 p.m. on Friday, Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Dr Abdulla Muththalib has announced.

The minister made the announcement after taking part in a tree-planting programme at the newly completed parking zone along the road, stating that the Government wanted the upgraded area to benefit the public immediately upon completion. He added that there would be no formal inauguration ceremony, with the road instead being opened directly for public use.

Minister Dr Muththalib said greening efforts along Boduthakurufaanu Magu would continue, with additional trees of different varieties to be planted as part of the road's landscaping. He said the initiative is part of efforts to create a greener urban environment as the road development project nears completion.

The tree-planting activity was held at the new parking area developed in front of the Bank of Maldives headquarters, which has capacity for around 500 motorcycles. The event was attended by MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudhee, cabinet ministers, senior Government officials, Members of Parliament, and staff from MTCC and BML.

Speaking to reporters, MD Saudhee said around 200 MTCC employees from various departments have been involved in the Boduthakurufaanu Magu development project. He said the road would play an important role in improving traffic flow in Malé while supporting planned changes to public transport services, including adjustments to bus routes and the introduction of taxi services under the Government's wider ring road vision.

MTCC has also begun landscaping the area by planting trees as part of the Government's nationwide initiative to create greener and more sustainable urban spaces under the Five Million Trees Programme.

The Boduthakurufaanu Magu redevelopment project is being financed by the Chinese Government. Survey work has also begun for similar road development projects in Malé and Villimalé, while the next phase of the Boduthakurufaanu Magu project is expected to extend from the Rasfannu to the MPL area, as previously announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
