Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel and Estonia's Secretary General of Foreign Affairs, Jonatan Vseviov, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Political Consultation between Maldives and Estonia on Tuesday.

Prior to the signing, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu met with Vseviov for diplomatic discussions. During their talks, the President outlined his Administration's digitalisation plans and raised concerns about European Union (EU) market access for Maldivian fisheries products. Vseviov pledged Estonian support in addressing these challenges within the EU.

The meeting also covered climate change initiatives, with the Secretary General praising the President's climate advocacy efforts. He highlighted Estonia's own energy transformation programme while expressing willingness to support the Maldives' development goals.

The new MoU is expected to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two nations across various sectors of mutual interest.
