The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has officially announced the details for collection of the 50 tonnes of dates donated by Saudi Arabia for Ramadan 1446.

This year, Saudi Arabia has allocated 25 packets of dates for every 100 households in the Maldives. The Ministry has confirmed that each household will receive one packet on a fist come-first serve basis, with the distribution process organised based on the electricity meter number and national identity card of the individual collecting the dates.

The dates will be distributed from January 20 to February 6, 2025, between 9:30 a.m and 1:00 p.m in the Greater Malé Area. Residents of these areas can collect the dates from the Islamic Centre, located in the capital.

Additionally, for those residing in the atolls, the dates will be distributed through their respective city councils or island councils. These councils are responsible for organising the distribution process in their regions. The distribution will ensure that the dates reach communities throughout the nation.

A portion of the dates has also been set aside to be distributed to organisations hosting iftar during Ramadan. The Ministry has called on interested organisations to register with them to ensure they receive their share for distribution during Ramadan.

The distribution process aims to provide much needed support to the local community during Ramadan, ensuring that each household has access to dates for breaking their fast.
