The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has issued a warning over dangerous air quality levels in the greater Male’ area, urging the public to take precautions to safeguard their health.
According to the air quality monitoring system installed at the Maldives National University's Centre for Maritime Studies campus in Villimale', the Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached 156.
This level is categorised as hazardous, posing risks to the general population and particularly to vulnerable groups such as individuals with pre-existing respiratory or heart conditions, pregnant women, children, and the elderly.
The HPA has advised residents to minimise time spent outdoors, wear masks when venturing outside, and keep doors and windows closed to limit exposure to polluted air. They also recommended avoiding strenuous outdoor activities and keeping infants indoors to reduce health risks.
The agency continues to monitor the situation and has urged the public to remain vigilant, follow health guidelines, and await further updates as conditions evolve.
