President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has praised the decision by the Prosecutor General’s Office to revoke immunity and cooperation agreements previously granted to individuals implicated in the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal.

In a post on his official X account, the President stated that addressing corruption effectively requires equal treatment for all those accused of wrongdoing, stressing the current Administration’s commitment to restoring accountability and transparency.

The decision, announced by the Prosecutor General’s Office on January 19, 2025, marks a shift in the handling of one of the Maldives’ largest financial fraud cases.

Agreements with four suspects, originally granted to secure their cooperation in the investigation and recovery of stolen funds, were terminated after they failed to assist meaningfully.

The individuals impacted include Ahmed Adeeb Abdul Ghafoor (H. Saamaraa), Ahmed Ishfah Ali (M. Land of Garden), Mohamed Allam Latheef (M. Cessna), and Mohamed Hussain (G. Oivaali).

This follows the 2022 cancellation of an immunity agreement with former MMPRC Managing Director Abdulla Ziyath, who was also found to have provided little cooperation in recovering embezzled state funds.

With these agreements nullified, the Maldives Police Service and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) have been directed to expedite investigations into the suspects.
