The Maldivian Parliament has approved the appointment of Moomina Waheed as the Vice President of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) on January 20, 2025.

The decision followed an out-of-session parliamentary meeting held on January 13, during which the matter was referred to the Human Rights and Gender Committee for review. After careful examination, the committee submitted a report recommending Moomina Waheed for the position.

During a subsequent special parliamentary session, her appointment was put to a vote, with 67 members voting in favour.

Moomina Waheed, who has been a member of the HRCM since 2020, steps into the role previously held by Dr Ahmed Adham Abdulla, following his resignation. The five-member commission is currently led by President Mariyam Muna and includes Aminath Shifaath Abdul Razzaq, Uza. Samaau Ahmed Najeeb, and Uz. Ismail Habeeb Abdul Raheem.
