The Parliament has approved four Ministers following the Cabinet reshuffle initiated by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu in December 2024, with changes to their mandates finalised on January 20, 2025.

The decision was finalised during an out-of-session vote, following a review by the Government Oversight Committee.

The four appointees will now head the Ministries:

  • Moosa Zameer, appointed as the Minister of Finance and Planning, was approved by 69 lawmakers.
  • Dr Abdulla Muththalib, taking the role of Minister of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure, received 70 votes in favour.
  • Dr Ali Haidar, now the Minister of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development, secured 63 votes, with 6 votes opposing his appointment.
  • Dr Maryam Mariya, appointed as the Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, gained the support of 70 lawmakers.

This marks the second instance of President Dr Muizzu making changes to his Cabinet.

Alongside these appointments, significant structural changes have been introduced to Ministerial responsibilities. The Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development has been disbanded, with its duties divided between two other Ministries. The planning mandate has been reassigned to the Ministry of Finance, while the housing portfolio now falls under the Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure.
