The Government has launched a comprehensive national survey aimed at assessing human resource requirements to better align the country’s workforce with future economic demands.

Speaking at the official launch, Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Skill Development, Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed, described the National Human Capital Needs Assessment as a crucial step in creating a skilled and responsive workforce. He said the findings will guide a strategic roadmap for developing the skills necessary to support the nation's evolving economy.

Minister Dr Haidar noted that the survey, which collects data from individuals aged 15 to 65, across employers and training institutions, will cover seven key economic sectors across the country. The aim is to generate evidence-based insights that inform policymaking and education reform.

He emphasised that the study highlights the pressing need for professionals in specific areas, particularly within the health sector, such as mental health care and elderly services. Additionally, it identified challenges faced by women in maintaining employment in these fields and called attention to the growing importance of ICT skills, the Minister noted.

According to the Minister, the survey represents a significant milestone in efforts to revitalise the job market. It provides a foundation for designing targeted training programmes and policies that promote meaningful employment for Maldivian youth.

Minister Dr Haidar affirmed that the Government is committed to working collaboratively across sectors to ensure the nation’s education and training systems are geared towards building a resilient, inclusive, and future-ready workforce.
