President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has nominated two candidates to fill the vacant posts in the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), forwarding their names to Parliament Committee for review.
During an out-of-session parliamentary meeting held on January 20, the Secretary General announced the candidates selected by the President.
The nominees, proposed to fill positions that have been vacant since November last year, are:
Following the announcement, Speaker of Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla referred the nominations to the Parliament's Committee on Independent Institutions for evaluation and recommendation.
The vacancies arose last November when ACC’s Vice President, Abdul Salam, and member, Thoha Mohamed, tendered their resignations. Their departures came ahead of a scheduled parliamentary vote of no confidence, which had been expected to result in their dismissal.
The five-member ACC currently operates with only three members: President Adam Shamil, Shiyama Mohamed, and Shazna Hashim.
The addition of the two nominees would restore the commission to its full capacity.
