Authorities have issued renewed warnings for vessels to avoid three canals closed for the ongoing construction of the Thilamale’ Bridge, citing safety concerns.

The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has specifically highlighted the closure of the Male’-Thilafushi channel, Male’-Villimale channel, and Villimale-Gulhifalhu channel.

Despite repeated advisories, vessels, including speedboats, have reportedly continued to use these restricted waterways, prompting additional warnings.

The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has also reinforced the restrictions, urging vessel operators to comply with the safety measures in place. The presence of barges, self-elevated platforms, buoys, and anchoring nets along the canals significantly increases the risk of accidents.

Officials emphasise that these closures are critical to ensure the smooth progress of the bridge construction and the safety of all maritime users. The public is urged to cooperate by navigating alternative routes until the completion of the Thilamale’ Bridge project.
