President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to transforming Ungoofaaru into a thriving urban centre, equipped with essential infrastructure and services.

Speaking to residents of Ungoofaaru during his visit to Raa Atoll, the President announced plans to upgrade Ungoofaaru Hospital to a tertiary-level facility within the next three years.

The President emphasised that the hospital upgrade will include the addition of specialist doctors and advanced medical facilities, significantly enhancing healthcare services for residents.

Highlighting the Government’s long-term development master plan, the President stressed the importance of regional and sustainable growth. He shared details of numerous projects planned for Ungoofaaru this year and beyond, focusing on upgrading the island’s infrastructure and improving public services.

Addressing critical issues, the President announced that the reclaimed land in Ungoofaaru will be fully developed and protected to prevent erosion. He also revealed plans to construct 500 housing units during his term to accommodate the community’s growing needs as the island evolves into an urban centre.

The President assured residents that contractors for these projects will be hired before the end of January, with work starting promptly thereafter. He added that close coordination with the local council and relevant ministries is underway to accelerate technical and land preparation efforts.
