Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer announced that construction will resume on the stalled housing project in Fuvahmulah City, following funding arrangements with the contractor.
The announcement came during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's ongoing visit to R. Atoll. The project will deliver 400 housing units across five 11-story towers, with each tower containing 80 apartments. Each 1,000-square-foot apartment will feature three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a living room, kitchen, dining area, laundry, and storage room.
PT Citramas Heavy Industries, in joint venture with FlexInc Pvt Ltd, was awarded the design-build contract in 2023. The Government has now arranged payments for private companies owed money for the past six years.
The Minister said payments are being processed systematically, with similar stalled projects across other islands set to resume construction. Some projects have been suspended for up to five years.
President Dr Muizzu has pledged an additional 500 housing units for Fuvahmulah City. Projects will be funded through this year's budget and contractor financing.
