President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated the Government has allocated 10,000 square feet of land near Rasfannu in Malé for the construction of a dedicated Waqf building focused on Quranic education.
The President made this announcement during a press briefing held in conjunction with World Press Freedom Day.
During the briefing, the President outlined several key religious infrastructure projects, emphasising that Waqf investment is a central focus of the Government's religious policy. He stated that the planned initiatives are designed to serve both medium and long-term goals of the Government.
Three major developments were highlighted; the newly allocated Waqf building near Rasfannu, the Darussalam Islamic Complex in Hulhumalé Phase One, and the Darul Arqam building in Malé. Both the Darul Salam and Darul Arqam projects are currently in the pre-tendering stage.
The President explained that revenue generated from these Waqf buildings will be reinvested Islamic programmes and initiatives, such as religious awareness campaigns and community events, without relying on the annual State budget.
