President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said that individuals allocated flats under any previous government should receive them from the same allocation, provided the process meets established eligibility and procedural standards.

Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office today, he addressed ongoing complaints related to the 4,000 flats built under the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation during the previous administration. He said efforts were underway to resolve these grievances swiftly.

President Dr Muizzu said the Government’s objective is to honour housing commitments made by past administrations; however, he noted that agreements would be cancelled if the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) or other authorities identified irregularities – such as allocations made outside approved criteria or obtained through misrepresentation.

He reiterated that the Government's policy is for all eligible recipients to receive their allocated flats or land, except where allocations are lawfully revoked.

The President expressed hope that decisions on the complaints would not significantly alter the original list, and that rightful recipients would receive their flats soon.

He also assured that individuals whose flat allocations were revoked during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s term would be accommodated under current housing programmes.

His remarks follow ACC findings of widespread issues in the temporary allocation list. A government review concluded that around two-thirds of those listed did not meet eligibility requirements.

Those deemed ineligible were given a one-month period to lodge complaints, which are now under review as final decisions are made.
