Maldives to see record number of mosques built in 2025: President

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that 2025 will mark the highest number of mosque construction projects in a single year in the Maldives.

At a press conference held at the President's Office today, the President stated that 21 mosque construction projects are currently in progress, while agreements have already been signed for an additional 17 projects. In total, 38 mosque construction projects are underway across the country, with most expected to be completed this year and the remainder by next year.

Islands with mosque construction projects:

• Haa Alifu Atoll: Baarah, Dhihdhdhoo

• Haa Dhaalu Atoll: Hanimaadhoo, Nellaidhoo

• Shaviyani Atoll: Foakaidhoo, Milandhoo, Noomaraa

• Raa Atoll: Inguraidhoo

• Baa Atoll: Kendhoo, Kudarikilu, Maalhos

• Noonu Atoll: Henbandhoo, Manadhoo

• Lhaviyani Atoll: Kurendhoo, Olhuvelifushi

• Alifu Alifu Atoll: Feridhoo, Maalhos, Himandhoo

• Alifu Dhaalu Atoll: Dhigurah

• Faafu Atoll: Nilandhoo

• Thaa Atoll: Kandoodhoo, Hirilandhoo, Vandhoo, Veymandoo, Dhiyamigili

• Laamu Atoll: Maabaidhoo, Isdhoo, Gan

• Dhaalu Atoll: Hulhudheli

• Gaafu Alifu Atoll: Kondey

The President also shared that mosque construction in the Greater Malé Region, including waqf-related projects, is progressing as part of the Government’s broader efforts to expand religious infrastructure across the country.
