President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said he is considering extending Government scholarships to Maldivian students studying abroad who achieve high academic results.
Currently, Government-funded scholarships are only available to high-achieving students enrolled in educational institutions within the Maldives.
Speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office on Saturday, President Dr Muizzu said the issue had been raised by Maldivians living overseas, including most recently during his official visit to Malaysia.
The President said his aim is to ensure that all Maldivian students who meet scholarship criteria – regardless of where they study – have access to the same opportunities.
While he did not confirm a policy change, President Dr Muizzu said the Government would review existing guidelines and consider possible amendments. He added that if changes are feasible, updated scholarship criteria would be introduced before the next application round.
