President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has dismissed rumours of a strained relationship with Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef, stating that their relationship remains strong and rooted in mutual trust.
Addressing the media at a press conference held at the President’s Office on Saturday, the President rejected claims suggesting a lack of connection between him and the Vice President. He said he continues to hold the same level of trust in Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef as he did when first inviting him to be his running mate, and added that this trust would remain going forward.
President Dr Muizzu explained that the decision to nominate him was his own, and that he had sought the endorsement of former President Abdulla Yameen only after the offer was accepted.
He noted that the Vice President remains actively involved in Government affairs, including representing him on a number of international visits. The President also made clear that Vice President Latheef is not being sidelined in any way and continues to play a significant role in the Administration’s ongoing work.
