President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Government will reclaim land adjacent to the Sinamalé Bridge Highway to facilitate the development of a new racing track.

The project, which will be executed by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), forms part of a broader initiative to enhance sports and recreational infrastructure across the country.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, the President confirmed that MACL, a state-owned enterprise, has been awarded the contract and will be investing in the track’s construction. He noted that the location for the track has been carefully selected to prioritise public safety. Rather than constructing the facility within a residential area, the Government opted to reclaim land near the highway specifically, the area adjacent to the solar panel installations stretching from the bridge to Hulhumalé.

The outer region of the highway will be dredged to create sufficient landmass to accommodate the track and ensure it meets the necessary specifications for length and safety.

President Dr Muizzu reiterated his Administration’s dedication to fostering a healthy and active society through sports and recreational development. He highlighted that 192 sports projects have already been signed under the Government, with an additional 377 projects in the pipeline. To date, 50 of these initiatives have been completed within the current year.
