President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he has never engaged in any illegal activity and reaffirmed that he will never act against the law.
The remarks came during a press conference where he responded to questions regarding allegations of misconduct during his tenure as Housing Minister under former presidents Mohamed Waheed and Abdulla Yameen.
Addressing the claims, the President noted that the Housing Ministry employed hundreds of staff at the time and emphasised that any credible allegation should be supported by evidence.
He said that institutions such as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) exist specifically to investigate such matters and that he fully supports their right to examine any allegation brought against him.
The President reiterated that he has never misused his position or authority and asserted that he has always acted within the bounds of the law.
He also underscored the importance of independent oversight, stating that institutions tasked with investigating corruption or misconduct have a clear mandate and will face no interference in fulfilling their responsibilities.
Additionally, he added that as President, his only role in relation to these bodies is the appointment of their members and that he would not interfere with their work.
