The Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that 39 individuals were fined for vape-related violations in April.
The Government has implemented a nationwide ban on electronic vaping devices from November 15, 2024, including their import, usage, sale, and distribution. With the ban, MPS has been authorised to seize anything related to vaping.
MPS stated that in their effort to ban vaping equipment, 39 individuals were fined by MVR 192,500 in April.
During the Press conference on Saturday, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu revealed the seizure of more than 26,000 vape products following this initiative. State agencies have also seized about 14.5 million illegally smuggled cigarettes.
The Government is also approaching the implementation of a tobacco ban for all citizens born on or after January 1, 2007. The president revealed that banning the use of these products would help nurture a healthier, more productive generation committed to the nation’s future development
