The 'Saudi-Maldives International Forum on Integrity 2025' has officially commenced at Villa Nautica, focusing on combating corruption in the tourism sector.
The two-day forum, attended by more than 180 officials from over 40 member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), is jointly organised by the Maldives Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Saudi Arabia's Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (NAZAHA).
The forum, inaugurated by Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef, includes high-level plenary sessions and panel discussions with participants from anti-corruption bodies, tourism authorities, and international organisations.
Held under the theme 'Strengthening Integrity and Combating Corruption in the Tourism Sector,' the forum aims to promote transparency and accountability across the industry.
ACC Chairman Uz Adam Shamil, in his opening remarks, highlighted the need to eliminate corruption to ensure the long-term sustainability of the tourism sector. He described the event as a crucial opportunity to unite relevant agencies and ministries for constructive dialogue on addressing vulnerabilities in one of the Maldives' most vital economic sectors.
Key challenges to integrity in tourism, such as public procurement practices, land use and development regulations, and public-private partnerships, will be discussed. The forum will also explore strategies to improve ethical standards, build institutional capacity, strengthen enforcement mechanisms, and promote international cooperation on asset recovery.
Experts from across the OIC will lead discussions on creating more transparent systems within the tourism industry and developing policy frameworks to support anti-corruption efforts.
