The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has reported a 9.4 per cent increase in tourist arrivals compared to the same period last year, with over one million visitors recorded as of June 10, 2025.
According to the latest tourism statistics, a total of 1,016,377 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year. The daily average for June stands at 5,002 arrivals, slightly below the overall daily average of 6,313. January, February, March and April recorded stronger daily averages, while May and June saw a gradual decline as the low season began.
The highest number of tourist arrivals was recorded in January, followed by April and March, reflecting the seasonal patterns typical of the industry.
In terms of accommodation, resorts continue to dominate the sector, accounting for 71.9 per cent of total tourist stays. Guesthouses followed with 22.8 per cent, while hotels and safari vessels accounted for 2.8 per cent and 2.4 per cent respectively. Other facilities made up the remaining 0.1 per cent.
China remains the leading source market for Maldives tourism, maintaining its position from last year. Russia has now moved into second place, overtaking the United Kingdom, which has shifted to third. Germany and Italy have also exchanged positions in the rankings.
As the Maldives celebrated reaching the one million tourist milestone this week, the Government has been intensifying promotional efforts in key markets. It now aims to double this figure and reach 2.3 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year.
