The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced that the newly constructed Islamic library at Salman Mosque in Malé will be officially inaugurated on July 12, 2025.

The library, which will launch with a collection of 15,000 books, is part of a wider initiative to enhance religious education and provide accessible Islamic literature across the country. The project reflects a key pledge made by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to develop Islamic libraries in mosques and Islamic centres throughout the Maldives.

Officials from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs met earlier this week to finalise preparations for the launch. The ministry confirmed that the facility at Salman Mosque is now structurally complete and ready for opening.

In addition to the library’s launch, the ministry revealed that 60,000 books will be donated by a foreign university to support similar facilities across the nation. These books are set to be distributed to Islamic libraries in Dhidhdhoo, Ungoofaaru, Thinadhoo, Addu City, and other islands, strengthening nationwide efforts to improve religious literacy and access to scholarly resources.
