Government awards 24 environmental projects to private companies

The Government has awarded 24 projects related to the environmental sector to private companies, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen waste management and environmental sustainability across the Maldives.

The agreements were signed between the Ministry of Tourism and Environment and representatives of the respective companies during a ceremony held at Barceló Nasandhura. The awarded projects include the establishment of Waste and Resource Management Centres and the procurement of equipment for Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) vehicles across 20 islands.

A total of five companies were contracted to carry out the works. The development of Waste and Resource Management Centres will take place in the following islands:

  2. Haa Alifu Maarandhoo – Glut Investment Pvt Ltd
  3. Haa Alifu Molhadhoo – Glut Investment Pvt Ltd
  4. Haa Alif Muraidhoo – Glut Investment Pvt Ltd
  5. Haa Dhaalu Finey – Buildtech Pvt Ltd
  6. Haa Dhaalu Hirimaradhoo – Buildtech Pvt Ltd
  7. Haa Dhaalu Kumundhoo – Buildtech Pvt Ltd
  8. Haa Dhaalu Kurinbi – Buildtech Pvt Ltd
  9. Haa Dhaalu Neykurendhoo – Buildtech Pvt Ltd
  10. Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaram – Buildtech Pvt Ltd
  11. Haa Dhaalu Vaikaradhoo – Buildtech Pvt Ltd
  12. Shaviyani Bileiyfahi – Alaaf Pvt Ltd
  13. Shaviyani Feevah – Alaaf Pvt Ltd
  14. Shaviyani Feydhoo – Alaaf Pvt Ltd
  15. Shaviyani Kanditheemu – Alaaf Pvt Ltd
  16. Shaviyani Lhaimagu – Alaaf Pvt Ltd
  17. Shaviyani Noomaraa – Alaaf Pvt Ltd
  18. Haa Alifu Thakandhoo – Trust & Maldives Pvt Ltd
  19. Haa Alifu Uligam – Trust & Maldives Pvt Ltd

In addition, Litus Automobile Pvt Ltd has been awarded multiple projects, including:

  • Procurement of equipment for WAMCO vehicles required for waste transfer operations in 20 islands.
  • Procurement of mobile shredders for Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Thinadhoo, and Kulhudhuffushi City.
  • Procurement of mobile sewer shredders for the same locations.
  • Procurement of vehicle equipment for Waste Transfer System Projects in Zones 6 and 7.

The Government stated that the awarding of these projects will not only enhance waste management infrastructure across the country but also create economic opportunities for local companies. All contracts were awarded in line with national financial regulations.
