As part of preparations to open the new terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA), the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has trained staff to operate the passenger boarding bridges.
The passenger boarding bridge service, introduced for the first time in the Maldives, will allow passengers to disembark directly from the aircraft into the terminal, eliminating the need for bus transfers previously used for boarding and arrival.
MACL has completed training all employees required to operate the newly introduced passenger boarding bridges at VIA. A total of 46 staff members have been trained, including 14 who underwent training in Malaysia and others who received training in Hulhule.
MACL aims to expand training efforts by using the expertise of staff trained in Malaysia to train more employees locally. The training focuses on equipping staff with the necessary skills to safely and efficiently operate the new passenger boarding bridges.
The government is making final preparations to open the new terminal at Velana International Airport on July 26, coinciding with the Maldives’ Independence Day celebrations.
