Mohamed Zahid has resigned from his position as President of the Elections Commission of Maldives, with the development confirmed by both the President’s Office and the Commission.
Chief Spokesperson at the President’s Office Mohamed Hussain Shareef confirmed the resignation to local media, while the Elections Commission also verified the decision.
Zahid was appointed as a member of the Elections Commission in January 2025 and later served as its Vice President before assuming the role of President in February.
He has previously held positions in independent institutions, including serving as Vice President of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives.
