National airline Maldivian will begin flights to Shenzhen, China, starting Monday night, further expanding its services to the Chinese market.

The airline plans to operate one seasonal flight per week on this route until August 21, 2025.

This new route builds on Maldivian’s growing presence in China, after the airline launched flights to Chengdu, Beijing, and Shanghai earlier this year. With China remaining the Maldives’ top tourism source market in both 2024 and so far this year, Maldivian is prioritising routes that serve this key visitor segment.

The carrier’s international expansion has been supported by the addition of a wide-body aircraft to its fleet in January, with a second wide-body aircraft expected to be delivered later this year.

Beyond China, Maldivian has also expanded its regional operations. The airline recently began direct flights from Hanimadhoo to Bangalore, India, and is planning further routes to Europe with the arrival of its second wide-body aircraft.
