The Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has credited President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s collaborative efforts with foreign partners and Maldivian industries for the steady progress in national development projects.

Speaking at the official inauguration of Maafaru International Airport on Tuesday, Minister Saeed said projects are advancing smoothly due to the President’s patient, measured leadership. Despite economic challenges at the start of the current administration, he said the President chose a strategy focused on long-term stability and engagement.

Minister Saeed stated that this approach is now yielding results, with infrastructure projects progressing across the country. He highlighted the upgrade of Maafaru International Airport as a key development, particularly for tourism in Noonu Atoll, which currently has more than 2,000 tourist beds.

Maafaru International Airport has also become a hub for private aviation in the Maldives. In 2024, the airport recorded 98 private jet movements, making it the second-busiest in the country after Velana International Airport (VIA). The enhanced facilities are expected to improve regional accessibility and attract further investment.
