Visit Maldives has teamed up with Red Bull to stage a groundbreaking extreme sports event aimed at expanding the country’s image beyond traditional tourism.

The project featured Estonian slackliner Jaan Roose completing a highly technical walk across a moving slackline suspended between a parasail and a speedboat a world-first feat in the sport.

The stunt, carried out at Siyam World in Noonu Atoll, was designed to highlight the Maldives as a destination for high-adrenaline, experiential travel. Organised by the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), the initiative is part of an ongoing campaign to reposition the country as a hub for adventure and innovation.

Roose, a decorated athlete with multiple world titles in slacklining, undertook the challenge over several days with custom rigging systems suited to the island environment, including modified parasail controls and a unique bungee setup, to stabilise the slackline in constantly shifting wind and water conditions.

The final walk required precise coordination between Roose, the parasail pilot, and the boat crew. It pushed the limits of both athletic performance and slackline engineering, testing equipment and techniques that had never before been used in such a dynamic marine setting.

The event also underscores Red Bull’s continued commitment to producing cutting-edge sports content. For Visit Maldives, the collaboration is a strategic move to diversify tourism offerings and position the country as a leading venue for global media productions and niche travel experiences.
