More than 14,400 individuals have been officially registered under the National Disability Registry as of June 2025, according to data released by the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA).

NSPA reported that a total of 14,412 individuals have been included in the registration so far. The highest number of registrants are persons with physical disabilities, totalling 4,117, comprising 1,818 women and 2,299 men. This is followed by 3,224 individuals registered with multiple disabilities, including 1,134 females and 2,090 males.

Cognitive impairments were recorded in 1,889 registered individuals, while 1,793 individuals were listed with intellectual disabilities. A further 1,745 people were registered with hearing and speech impairments. Visual impairment was noted in 1,003 individuals, while 586 individuals, predominantly male, were registered with autism. A smaller group of 55 people was registered under other disability categories.

The Government has stated that the purpose of the National Disability Registration is to provide a foundation for delivering effective support and services to persons with disabilities. It also allows for the monitoring of changes in their quality of life and better identification of individual needs.

A national database is currently being developed to centralise and update information collected through the registration. This data will be instrumental in shaping inclusive policies and ensuring that persons with disabilities are fully integrated into all aspects of social, educational, and economic life in the Maldives.
