Unidentified individuals smashed the glass windows of the under-construction fire station at Faafu Magoodhoo Airport and attempted to set fire to the building early Sunday morning.

The Maldives Police Service said the incident was reported at 7:47 a.m. on July 13. In addition to the broken windows, the ceiling was also damaged.

A member of the Magoodhoo Council told MMTV that the suspects had not yet been identified. Police confirmed there was evidence of an attempted arson.

Authorities said an investigation is ongoing.
