The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skill Development has disbursed more than MVR 85 million under the Government’s First Degree Grant Scheme as of July 10, 2025.

The scheme, which supports Maldivians undertaking undergraduate education, has so far benefited 1,168 newly registered students this year, including 704 women and 464 men.

According to the latest figures, 2,068 students have graduated under the scheme in 2025. Of these, 1,355 were women and 713 were men. The total number of graduates under the scheme over the past two years stands at 5,412.

A total of 3,888 students registered for the programme in 2024 and 2025. Currently, 8,086 students remain enrolled, with 5,047 female and 3,039 male participants.

The First Degree Grant Scheme remains a key Government initiative to improve access to higher education and reduce financial barriers for Maldivians pursuing their first degree.
